Fall Carnival and Volunteering

Volunteering.  I try to volunteer a lot in my kid's school, mostly so I know what my kids are talking about when they tell me about their day...but also because my mom was a teacher and I know first hand how under paid and over extended teachers are.  Can you believe my kid's class sizes average 25 to 30 kids per teacher?!?  I could never do it day in and day out, teachers are amazing people.

Most recently I volunteered to paint the posters advertising our school's first ever Fall Festival.  It is a fundraising event, and it should be lots of fun.  I spent a morning painting up a storm in the garage, and it made me feel great to be helping out, especially because I love volunteering my art skills.  :)

I'm hoping to volunteer for the 'Art Smart' program as well...you know keeping kids from eating the glue, mopping up spilled tempra paint, and handing out safety scissors....I can totally do that.

I dropped the posters off this morning and was met with true appreciation, which is a good step in the right direction, since we are new to the school.  I left with more paper and paint, and will kick out another batch before the big night.

fantastic! I think more of us need to volunteer - in whatever fashion that looks like to each person. it's selfish in that it makes you feel good but completely unselfish because you're helping someone/something out... well done, love.

How cool! I love your posters and love your volunteering. I always think of volunteerring and hope to do more soon. It's a bit hard for me now as I'm working and taking care of my mom, but as soon as I get her into various programs, I will start volunteering with them! I would love to teach fun art projects to the elderly.

Thank you for saying teachers are amazing people! Parents usually don't understand what we go through daily in a classroom of 30 students. :) Great job on posters! YOU did an amazing job! You are a true artist!

As the great Mohammed Ali once said..."service to others is the payment you make for your space here on earth." We can only hope that others will see the world this way! Happy weekend, love!

Adorable! I totally would have just slapped some words on the poster, but you really made them eye-catching and unique. Nicely done! And it's great of you to volunteer to help the teachers out. They are underpaid and underappreciated!

Stopping by and following from FTLOB.

Heading over from FTLOB Comment Sunday.
Those posters are awesome.

I volunteer when I can since I work full time. However, I will say that most times when I do volunteer the Capricorn in me comes blaring out wanting to take over so I have to reign myself in...and that is difficult.
